(B/W version)This book details the lives and times of two branches of the Tonkin family. There are also brief details of other Tonkin families from Cornwall, and families with Tonkin connections. Much of this book would not have been possible if it were not for the foresight of Thomas Tonkin (1678-1742) one of the leading local historians of the time. Much of his work survives including a detailed account of his family which was invaluable in the writing of this book. The aim of this book is purely my attempt to be the first (as far as I know) to write and publish a history of the family, and to present it in a readable and interesting format. I have also included various highlighted sections on the times my ancestors lived in, and various explanatory notes, comments etc regarding genealogy so I hope it may also appeal to a wider audience. Please note that this book incorporates the companion book ‘The Lords of Trevaunance’ this book (76 pages) can be purchased separately... More > from my shop at< Less

"A review on by Myrtle Seal New Zealand 24 Nov 2008 on the Tonkin Family from St Agnes" What a great labour of love in compiling the Tonkin family history. Kevin Tonkin is to be congratulated on the research and details, plus the many photographs he included in the Tonkin families of St Agnes. After reading all the history of the family and district, it has made me determind to find a connection to the St Agnes Tonkin family. Thank you Kevin for your great book,it is a genealogist dream.

"A review by Rodney Warmington on behalf of the Cornish Family History Society" An excellent family history account mainly of two branches of the Cornish family of Tonkin. The origin and history of the Tonkin name is given and whilst the book is primarily of the Tonkin families of St Agnes, it also gives details of other Tonkin families notably of Penwith and Kerrier. Tribute is paid to Thomas Tonkin (1678-1742) a respected local historian whose detailed account of his family still survives. Much research has gone into this book and Mr Tonkin is to be congratulated on the details he has provided particularly of individuals of the family, ‘warts and all’, with a surprising number of photographs. The book was easy to read and I found it most interesting as I feel it would be to most people especially those with connections to the Tonkin family. Mr Tonkin tells us it has taken him over 20 years gathering the information for the book which has, obviously, been a ‘labour of love’!
