In the early 1920's, Superintendent of Police in India H.G. Lang introduced the Walking Stick Method of Self Defense based upon the instruction of Swiss la canne Professor Pierre Vigny. He published this historic manual documenting his cane fighting system. This manual, faithfully transcribed by Kirk Lawson from the original (copyright held on text formatting and images), Lang included 116 pages of text in his orginal manual including 66 pages of specific instruction and 60 images illustrating his techniques. Special thanks to Ralph Grasso for preserving this historic text in his library. Additional thanks to Joseph P. Sullivan for providing a copy to me. Finally, special thanks to The Exiles (http://www.the-exiles.org) for hosting the original PDF transciptions.

"A different approach" Lang provides us with a system that is totally different than the other systems I have seen. If you want a well rounded background on cane use for self defense, this one is indispensable!

"Faithful and complete" Kirk Lawson's re-publication of H.G. Lang's "Walking Stick Method of Self Defence" is a complete and faithful reproduction of the original work, even down to font and layout. The system presented in Lang's book, believed to have been a development of Pierre Vigny's art of self defence with a walking stick, is undoubtedly the most complete of all of the early 1900s treatises on this subject. It deserves careful study by anyone with an interest in the history of stick fighting as practical self defence.

"An entire system" This republication of a stick-fighting manual from the early part of the 20th century is a real gem. It contains an entire system for self-defense with a simple stick. La canne was very popular at the turn of the century, but finding complete manuals like this one is very difficult. I highly recommend it.

"Excellent transcription of an excellent text" Mr Lawson has done a great job in recreating Lang's seminal text. For those looking fora workable, robust stick fighting system then Lang's method fits the bill very well. Download it and have some fun!
