"Re: Groundbreaking, But I Still Want More!" Thanks so much. I agree, I just didn't want to put a name on this child, but it does need a bit of an intro. Thanks for your positive words and encouragement. God Bless, Kristie

"Some People Think I'm Fat" I love this book. It is very positive and yet realistically to the point. I have just the students with whom I'd like to share this wonderful lesson. Social skills groups can't miss with this topic as well as dealing with persons with other differences. Great job!

"Groundbreaking, But I Still Want More!" Some People Think I'm Fat is the first book I've ever seen that is directed to children experiencing obesity, focusing on their experience, not their diets. In this, it is a groundbreaking effort, one that potentially could help a child with obesity find a voice, or encourage empathy in slimmer peers. The illustrations in this book are simply done, yet highly evocative. They stay with you long after the words have faded, an especial plus for children, who tend to remember pictures more than stories. The one thing I wish this book had would be more backstory or introduction to the character. What is his name? Does he have obesity? As an adult, I can infer such bodily details from the title, but children might not. A page or two saying something like, "My name is Christopher. I have a larger body than some of my friends. Some people think I'm fat. This is my story." might have been nice. Overall, the book is well-done and... More > sure to be appreciated by children, no matter their size, for the new and interesting story it tells.< Less
