Huracán, Spanish for Hurricane, is a suspenseful novel of the 1733 Spanish treasure fleet that sank off the Florida Keys during a major storm. Twenty-two treasure-laden ships either sank, or beached during the hurricane with tragic loss of lives, and treasure.
This exciting novel begins in Seville, Spain, where a young captain Antonio Larzaro is awarded his first chance to sail to the new world. Leaving behind his true love, he must endure two years of hardship at sea, and foreign lands and strange cultures. Antonio also learns that the conquest of Spain is sometimes brutal to inhabitants of lands it invades.
The captain befriends several interesting characters onboard his ship, the San Pedro. Cero, an inquisitive young alchemist, and a banished priest, the Padre becomes the captain's best friends. Their voyage is one of discovery and wonder as they experience the beauty and fury of the Atlantic.
