I have read most of the Bletchley books because my father worked in Hut 3 (see Vol 1 page 36 and 244 though we always new my late father as Don Stephens not Willie Stephens). What is so refreshing about the Landis Gores account is that he views the both the atmosphere and the operation of Bletchley from an entirely different perspective. One realises on reading his significant contribution that British accounts fail to mention many aspects of war time life which were taken for granted by British authors. Similarly British accounts do not mention the American involvement in Ultra simply because it was not known to them. I have had the privilege of visiting Bletchley several times, the last time being with my late cousin who worked at the outstation at Fighter Command at Stanmore on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary Reunion, I meet a whole host of remarkable people, sadly I do not recall any American presence
