Just finished reading "Bride of the Mutant's Tomb" which, having now been re-written, is even funnier and warmer than I remembered it from it's original production. Larry Blamire's feelings of affection and admiration for movies and the people who make them (which I share) comes across strongly; obviously now enriched by his own experience in Hollywood. One change from the original is that actor Owen's rebuke of wise-ass cameraman Buzz is now more gentle, less harsh than before, which is appropriate (love the phrase "overachiever's insurance.") Have I mentioned how damned FUNNY "Bride of the Mutant's Tomb" is? The litany of fictitious film titles and actors is hysterically perfect. (Try coming up with film titles and actor names that sound as right as Larry's; it's much harder than you think!) The scenes of the film-within-the-play are marvelous - this is where you'll find the genesis of THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA. I had forgotten the play originally... More > ended with scriptwriters Jimmy and Mary as prototypical young lovers; ending with aging actor Franz and director Harry is SO much better. It's a surprisingly warm piece, and I think Larry got the mixture of mixed feelings about aspirations vs reality, and how we all deal with that, on the nose. Eight years before Tim Burton's "Ed Wood," Larry Blamire's "Bride of the Mutant's Tomb" paid humorous, loving, respectful tribute to low budget movies and the people who make them. (Full disclosure: I've been a friend of Larry Blamire for a long time, but had nothing to do with the original production of "Bride of the Mutant's Tomb" or with its current re-write) - Bob Deveau< Less
