Some of the most creative language this side of Blamire's brilliant "Jump Camp," though in this play the language grows organically out of the play's time and place. A large cast of vivid characters and a world that feels thoroughly lived in. If you were as disappointed by the missed potential of Scorsese's GANGS OF NEW YORK as I was, or drawn into the world of BBC America's "Copper," you'll be fascinated by "Whyo." Now that its published I don't see how any theatre with ambition could resist mounting it. (Full disclosure: though I'm a friend of the author, I had nothing to do with the original staged reading of this play.)
