I give this book a 5 star rating. I like the - Because Your Worth It - page and the affirmations that follow, it sets the tone of what recovery is all about. The book explains the areas of the brain affective most by alcoholism and addiction and is a testament to the disease model of addiction. Keeping a journal and setting goals is good for everybody but especially important to people struggling trying to stay sober.
I bought this book at Larry Smith's Family Seminar. I am not in recovery myself nevertheless I found this book to be a revealing and enlightening. As a successful business owner, goal setting and understanding your present plan is of the up most importance. This book hits a home run in these areas. Although the information on the brain was more thorough than I expected, it flowed well. I found Captain Smith's personal story compelling and humorous. I'm amazed at his willingness to bare all to help other people recognize their own problems with alcoholism and drug addiction.
As Chemical dependency counselor I found this book to be instrumental in helping client's get organized and maintain motivation and enthusiasm for recovery. Larry's has great insight into addiction and the brain. I found this book to be inspirational and educational.
