How far would you go to help a child you suspect is being abused — right now? Witness to what she believes is a little girl being molested, Maxine Reise sees no alternative but to intervene. She overpowers the abuser and whisks the child to safety. In the aftermath of this violent incident, eight-year-old Chloe is too terrified to talk, forcing Maxine to defend her split-second decision. Maxine, Chloe and the people closest to them are plunged into uncertainty as they try to get on with their lives, waiting for the truth to unfold. Told with unexpected humor, this gripping story explores how each character wrestles with growing up, trusting their instincts and knowing when to let go and move on.

"Very compelling cast of characters!" I picked this book up after getting a strong recommendation from a friend, but started reading it with trepidation, since it addresses sexual abuse of a minor. Much to my surprise and delight, while this serious subject is a focal point of the book, the author creates a cast of very compelling characters that make it a lovely, lighthearted read. It is witty, and her characters are easy to relate to-- normal fallible people that you might be friends with. I stayed up one too many late nights reading this book, and didn't want it to end. Very enjoyable- I highly recommend this book!
