In the wake of the housing and stock market crash of 2009, California cedes from the nation and becomes a communist country with free housing and health care. As a result of these programs there is a population boom. To counteract the increase in population, the government starts the PRC Program which places a senior class onto Catalina Island and pits the students against one another in a death match, where there can only be one winner. The surviving class member receives a scholarship to the college of their choice. This play and the film Tokyo 10+01 were both inspired by Battle Royale. I felt Population Control leaned heavier on the original version, but with some talented twists. It appears that Lauren has stripped Battle Royale down: modernised, westernised and injected more blood and maturity, then skilfully rebuilt. Population Control is a great play you won’t put down until you’ve read the last page. Because of the added grit and mindless killing of others, this may spark the same controversy as the original film. This would make a great Battle Royale 3

A fast-paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Lauren Stone has written a spell-binding thriller. Only one teenager will be allowed to survive the senior's class trip. The principal and the teacher take their high schoolers out to a deserted island, giving them weapons and informing them to fight for survival. One by one, they kill each other off. Some commit suicide, some kill their friends, some band together, some decide to fight back. Who will make it to the end?

"Population Control by Lauren Stone" Loved this book. The author's original idea of controlling population through the graduating classes of America's highschools is brilliant and chilling. The atmosphere is tense, the plot moves along very fast. The basic concept of survival of the fittest leaves you guessing just who is the fittest right to the end. I recommend it to anyone wanting something different and entertaining. (and well written) Great job.
