Niamh Dempsey (Goodreads): The Author (Laurence Hattersley) discusses medicine as we know it and the belief systems (his words) that support it. He also talks about people's expectations on visiting any doctor/practitioner and their belief systems as well. He uses some amusing quotes from House to demonstrate these. His review of medicine and its history is quite a learning curve, but is essential to understand all what medicine believes and why it does what it does. Medicine, he says, has no definition of good health, only parameters of normality. According to the doctors, if we are not in that area of normality, we are in a place of disease. He also asserts that medicine claims all the authority on all things medical, but most certainly does not have all the answers With this he expands upon his concept of diagnostic boxes, of which 'incurable' is a very big one. He also asserts that without 'good health', we cannot 'heal'. So our good health is fundamental to any treatment we... More > receive. He has his own patients, as an osteopath, and uses their experience to explain his own viewpoint: that people have a relationship with their good health and their disease. Their disease experience is unique to them. Not the disease is an entity that needs to exorcised; Host + Disease = Illness It answers lots of question, but introduces lots more. There will always be more questions. See it here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17293550-a-second-opinion---an-insight-into-good-health-disease-and-our-relation?from_search=true< Less
