I'm finding this book extremely helpful in opening up the neck through chord inversions. It is written in an enjoyable and straightforward fashion which would suit a student of any level. In particular, I find the voice leading section very informative, it has made me completely rethink the way I approach chords and chord changes as well help me branch out from set positions on the neck which in the past I had found difficult to do. For £5.99 you are getting a treasure trove of information. I look forward to more in the future.

This is a very informative book for studying the Melodic Minor scale and its harmony. Laurence presents fairly complex theories in a completely unique , insightful and exciting way. He's also able to take a subject which some might find tricky to understand and make it seem fresh and very engaging. Although it does feel like there's some clear goals here , it also leaves you asking yourself the very question he mentions in the book several times and as a consequence given the right attitude and imagination there's a huge ground to be covered and avenues to be discovered all by yourself. And i personally find the sensation of discovery to be one of the most fulfilling things on the instrument.

A precise and informative insight into voice leading and the mysteries of the Melodic Minor explained and put simply into a visual guide of reference. It takes a while to get your head around rootless chords but Laurence Ruston takes you on a painless journey with all intervals laid out for you to follow. Tritone substitution is also covered well leaving you with a vast array of knowledge allowing you to experiment with your own playing which opens up a new journey of discovery.

I like the way the author showed different perspectives on chord tone clusters and I also like how it's simple terms gave insight into what was a complicated subject for me. I recommend this book for more reasons that just NOT being filled with notation , but handy diagrams and useful real world explanations
