The following is a collection of oil portraits by Laurie Marshall of her fifth grade art students of the Helen S. Faison Arts Academy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylviania. The students also contributed their writing. This public neighborhood school, which opened in 2005, is dedicated to using the arts and technology as tools to actively engage children in academic learning. The Arts Academy is located in a community called “Homewood” which has a long, rich history of great challenges and great accomplishments.
