AMONG PIGEONS IS ONE OF THE MOST RIVETING AND EXCITING BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A WHILE. THE STORY LINE WAS JUST AWESOME. I BEGAN TO READ THIS BOOK AND WAS SO CAPTIVATED BY THE STORYLINE THAT I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT COMPLETED IN 2 1/2 DAYS. THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR ME. NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT I WAS SO INTRIGUED THAT I DID NOT WANT TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN AT ALL. I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO READ THIS BOOK AS YOU WILL BE JUST AS CAPTIVATED AS I WAS. DR. LAWRENCE WOOD YOU ARE A GREAT AUTHOR

I have to admit a fondness for the gritty style of the film noire genre from the late 40's and 50's. There is something so compelling in those stories that even now, fully 60 years after their release, I'm driven to pay attention to them. I have recently begun to look beyond the surface of such films for a deeper lesson. When I began reading 'Among Pigeons' the first impression I had was that Larry Wood had penned an excellent homage to that sort of story. How incredibly incomplete was that assessment. This book roughly covers a short period of time in the life of a man who lives on the streets, Roman Barnes. Starting with his savage beating at the hands of unknown assailants we're introduced to any number of people - all of whom are carrying their own burden. Some of them are struggling to keep that burden from overwhelming them, others have given up and live a life most of us can't contemplate with any confidence. In every page there is a lesson, in every circumstance there is... More > something I didn't know or understand, and to be sure there are some truly wonderful people among the homeless and Wood fills in the features of each beautifully. Among the characters in the book are a considerate nurse, Nurse T; two detectives, Jackson and Innes; a homeless child and her mother, Deborah and Sarah; and a cast of homeless with stories compelling enough to make one wish to learn more - Rooster, Fudge, the Mayor, and the Alderman. Wood tells us just enough about each of them to deliver an excellent story with a deeply spiritual lesson. I read a quote many years ago on the jacket of a book I read until the binding came undone - I envy those of you who have not read this book yet for you are going to feel the warmth I now feel, and be as amazed as I am having just finished it. I cannot wait to read the subsequent book continuing to trace Roman Barnes path.< Less

This book was difficult to put down! On one hand an inspiring story of one man's struggle for survival in an urban jungle, on the other, a thrilling detective adventure! This is a very emotional read that will keep you up late reading just to make sure your friend Roman will be okay by the next chapter! It is very grounding to realize how easily any of us can become one of the thousands of homeless we ignore on the street, making the characters so easy to relate to. Read. This. Book.

Lawrence Woods story was heartfelt and genuine.Bringing to life the bittersweet realities of society and how the less fortunate are treated. In the end His characters strength and commitment shows how hard work and devotion can conquer all. To witness how one man can grow and succeed is amazing. A breath of fresh air to anybody who just wants to give up. Keep your head up and drive on. If Roman Barnes can do it so can You. Best book ever. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next one. Thank You Woo for being such an amazing person and sharing with the world. GOD Bless You!

Among Pigeons is an awesome book that is enlightening and inspiring. I highly recommend this book; it really communicates the basics of humanity in regards to our vital need for relationship with one another. It also highlights how we often starve ourselves and others of potentially benefiting relationship experiences due to perspectives of economics/class, ethnicity, race, education, etc. This book achieves all the basic desires and expectations one might have reading such a piece; adventure, mystery, suspense, laughter, heroism, and love. I would summarize it's most powerful point referencing a bible verse, "Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it." (Heb 13:2 NLT) If you have any reading in you, check this one out!
