Never Talk Trash

I was also often called many names… grounds keeper, garbage man, “hey you,” Dude, that one guy, Mr. Fixit, Mr. Banta, and Mr. Santa. Ultimately, I was a janitor. At first I had a little problem with it… not with the job, but with the title itself. After all, the name on my door said “Site Coordinator.” My job description was “Custodian.” But after a while, I became cool with it, proud of it, and very good at it. I had no choice but to come to grips with it because of the honesty of the children. I never talked trash to them, because they see things as they are. They don’t sugarcoat, cover-up, or beat around the bush. They saw a janitor… and that was me.
