Mary MacKenzie, Lake Placid’s public historian, died in 2003. Shortly after her death, Lee Manchester began preparing for publication the work she had left behind. “The Secret Poems of Mary C. Landon,” a collection of nearly 150 poems written under her maiden name in the 1930s, was published in 2005. “The Plains of Abraham: A History of North Elba and Lake Placid,” her collected historical writings, was released in 2007. The final bit of Mary’s intellectual legacy is this photo collection, containing the restored images from 333 film slides collected by Mary as illustrative material for her public lectures. It is the largest, most comprehensive collection in existence of images depicting the history of Lake Placid.
