Mary MacKenzie, Lake Placid’s public historian, died in 2003. Shortly after her death, Lee Manchester began preparing for publication the work she had left behind. The final bit of Mary’s intellectual legacy is this photo collection, containing the restored images from 333 film slides collected by Mary as illustrative material for her public lectures. It is the largest, most comprehensive collection in existence of images depicting the history of Lake Placid. After scanning Mary’s slides, Manchester spent several months digitally restoring the images. First published online by the Lake Placid Public Library, the collection was later reformatted for print publication.
