This is a great read, and though I enjoyed the pace of the first novel in this series, Golden Boy, I enjoyed this one for its depth and intrigue. This novel takes us back to Stalinist Russia to reveal the events that shaped the life of Princess Sofiya, Gunther's great-grandmother and the matriarch of the family dynasty. Orphaned and brutally deposed, the story tells of her desire for revenge which drives her inner strength and covertly ensures her survival and that of her sons. The attention to detail is fascinating and the obvious depth of research gives this novel a unique richness and quality. Again, looking forward with bated breath to the next in the Pathways to Revenge series...
