Lack of safe drinking water and effective sanitation and hygiene practices in primary schools prevents millions of children from receiving a high-quality education. However, schools today have the opportunity to teach children about the life-saving behaviors associated with drinking safe-water, using effective sanitation, and perform healthy hygiene practices. Lifewater has developed a special WASH training program for children in of primary school, which utilizes learning methods that meet children’s interests and needs: “Ten Building Blocks for Better Health: A Primary School WASH Curriculum." Children who have participated in this WASH in Schools program in eastern Africa have shown a remarkable ability to naturally “share what they know” with others, teaching WASH messages to their parents, siblings, neighbors, and friends within their circle of influence. A child who is inspired and empowered with knowledge can become an exceptional Agent of Change within his or her community.
