"Songs of the Way" This collection of poetry is uneven. All of the poems are good but some are quite exceptional. In particular 'Song of Exile' and 'The Prisoner on Death Row' seem almost to face us with the promise of a great poet to come. I understand that the author is a gypsy - perhaps she would like to write some poems about the Romany way of life for the benefit and education of people like me who have a faint smidgeon of gypsy blood in them (over 100 years ago) and of course the wider non-gypsy public who are fascinated by the unusual lifestyle of the Romanies. I found the poems very moving indeed. They were clearly written by someone who is a real poet and feels passionate about both the death penalty and prison inmates. The real sincerity and compassion comes through clearly and as a prizewinning poet myself and the author of two collections of poetry and three works of non-fiction I can honestly say that I admire this book enormously. Yes, there are one or two... More > rough edges to it but on the whole this collection of poems is a masterpiece!< Less
