Solace is a "gumbo;" a mix of urban fiction, poetry, erotica, and socially conscious literature. With the back-drop of the Bronx and Washington Heights, Solace is about six young people who think that they know each other casually until a series of explosive events happen, causing them to realize that their lives are actually entwined with one another. Solace’s characters confront issues such as racism, inter-ethnic conflict, crime, homophobia and abuse—issues that affect many young people, regardless of where they come from. Solace is a thought-provoking and transformative story that is likely to yield discussions about race, gender, sexuality, and culture. Solace is a survivor’s book that appeals to many people who have flourished in spite of hardship. Solace is told with an edgy and sometimes gritty flare, yet it is a voice for many of the nameless, faceless individuals whose stories and talents are unseen, unheard, and uncelebrated.

"Better than an 'E' for 'Effort'" I enjoyed reading this work. It was absolutely interesting. The most compelling aspect is that it is not another drama-overload, gritty, urban fictional read. Instead, 'Solace' entices your intellect, emotion, humor, etc. It challenged me as a reader to expect and respect the unconventional. It also challenges other writers (specifically those in the urban, fictional realm) to take the less traveled road of cliche. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an intelligent, genuine, and entertaining read.

"It's a book for the AGES!!!" Solace is a coming-of-age novel that engages the reader to become involved with the characters very early in the book. Its dramatic style and vivid imagery is captivating. Through the personal and intimate experiences of the lead character, the reader is challenged to think about life, who we are, and about the choices we make for ourselves. More importantly, it is a book that highlights the fact that no matter how far we go in life, we can not escape our problems, our friends, our family, and most of all ourselves. It is a book for the young, the old, the educated, and the experienced. A job well done!!

"This book is great!" I loved how down to earth the book was, and the growth of the characters throught the book espically Deja. This book is not to be ingonred, but read by everyone.

"AWESOME READ!!!" This was a surprisingly quick read. Edwards was able to capture in detail the desperation and longing that we all have for finding love. The characters were all well developed. I felt like I knew and understood aspects of all of them. I practically read it in one sitting. I look forward to the sequel!
