WE WERE THE PEOPLE ....Book One: LIFE
eBook (PDF), 343 Pages
We Were the People is a trilogy spanning three generations of an American family and a century of American history. From the docks of Bremerhaven in 1892 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, this is the biography of an American family watching history unfold. Epic in proportion, endearing in their imperfection, their story, like America, is both common and extraordinary. Book One traces Jakob’s journey from homelessness in Germany to the upper echelons of success in American business and society. His is the first leg of the journey, sowing the seeds for his family’s future successes and failures

Sep 28, 2010Last night I forced myself NOT to finish reading "Pursuit of Happiness." Why? Because I don't want to come to the end of such a wonderful experience. Lisa is a remarkable writer.......and first time author? Truly amazing! A thought that keeps tickling my mind is that Lisa writes like a man and thinks like a woman. That thought then flips and I think she writes like a woman and thinks like a man. The combination is a gift! Her attention to detail is phenomenal, makes the work so personal...# of hair color, how to drive a dying Chevy in 4th gear for miles and so forth. The characters are so human, coupled with dialogue that speaks in my ear rather than remaining on the page. I can almost hear the accents of some. It is mind-stretching to try to link the fictional characters with real folks from our area who may have inspired Lisa. The dream sequences seem like they could have been created by a psychologist. The journal entries speak from the heart of a young girl. And I love... More > the local references. Did Lisa live here?? Research! Gosh, I can hardly imagine the time it took to gather the area history and the world history. Then to weave it together so that each enhances the other is definitely a work of literary art. I think I got a better picture of U.S.. history from war to war than I've had from college classes. A friend of mine was the agent who found the operative who was the key to locating where the Iran hostages were held. I learned much more about that event from "Pursuit of Happiness" than I had known. I found myself wishing the trilogy was written like some Bibles with words actually spoken in red [and, of course, that isn't really true] and others written in black so I could sort the fiction from fact as I read.. Instead, I just had to think! One of the powerful messages the books bring is the hope and healing to be found in families even where there is great pain. This may be a work of fiction but the hope is real.< Less
May 3, 2010WE WERE THE PEOPLE was an outstanding read, cover to cover. The particularly intriguing feature of this first volume of the threesome, is the incredible ability of this fresh, new young author to blend fact with fiction to make a real believer out of the reader. You become invested in the characters and can visualize them as real people through time and events. I cannot wait to read volumes 2 and 3. The five star rating above is well earned. Rodger Painting
