Keldaren Amodei is an office worker by day and a thief by night. Well, not every night of course. She plans her burglaries, meticulously and electronically. She has to, now that her ex-boyfriend Shia has gone straight a year ago and opened a bar. With two new associates, she is going to break into a museum and steal the Goddess’s dress, jewellery and crown, during the annual Festival. It’s a thriller, it is also science-fiction, but Kel’s best friend is a ghost and they need the crown to prevent Missra from disintegrating into thin air, like most ghosts do after a certain period of time. ‘The Abbey at the World’s End’ is set in Seachester, a town of small importance in the Empire, far from the war raging on the Empire’s borders. The Theocracy is the one and only religion running, or not, the citizens’ lives and has been for 3,000 years, since the Living Goddess. Nowadays only the Handmaidens and Hunters are likely to hear the voice of the Goddess. I enjoyed reading this thrilling... More > novel written with a dry sense of humour and enough details to lure you into the mind of the main character and understand her lifestyle. Her best friend, Missra the ghost, is captivating and mysterious, too. What is Missra’s secret? What does she know about Keldaran’s destiny? And actually, what is Keldaran’s Destiny? LL Watkin created an interesting and intriguing world that I’d be curious to see again if there was to be a sequel.< Less
