Yogi Ramacharaka was the pseudonym of William Walker Atkinson, an American writer who was influential in the early 1990's in several spiritual/philosophical movements such as 'New Thought' (a precursor to today's New Age movement) and Theosophy. This mysterious writer, about whom we know virtually nothing, helped to popularize Eastern concepts in the Western world, with Yoga and a broadly-interpreted Hinduism being particular areas of focus. Ramacharaka's "Mystic Christianity" remains widely respected as an excellent primer for the study of comparative religion, at a time when the term was not yet coined.
