The decentralization policy in Ghana enjoins the Sekyere West District Assembly and other District Assemblies to be responsible for the overall development of the entire District including provision of roads. This necessitated the establishment of the Common Fund to provide financial resources to the Assemblies. Much of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund which is set aside for development purposes goes to departments of the District and other departments that have close working relationship with the District Assembly. However little is known on how much of the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund goes to the road sector for provision of road infrastructure network in the District. Very little is also known about the effects of the Common Fund on road infrastructure provision in the District. It is against this background that this study was conducted to establish the effects of the Common Fund on road infrastructure provision.
