This moving book about the author's mother, Beryl, was a pleasure to read; well told stories supported by photos and documents. The way conversations were re-created made the book easy to get into and brought it alive. Reading about childhood years spent in hospitals makes me thank my lucky stars for having had such a conventional childhood. The author's father was similarly hospitalized for polio as a child, so you gain insight to a world of children with serious illness more than half a century ago. These young parents were incredibly brave and sadly Beryl's life was cut short just when it was starting to flourish.
