When Louise Prister’s children went to summer camp she wanted to write them every day. She didn’t want to send them boring letters so she sent them stories. The letters made her children very popular campers. Do You Know Why? Is the stories she sent to her children that summer. The stories come from Prister’s childhood. Rescue The Doll is the story of a doll that is cold. She has no clothes to keep her warm so Louise placed her on the furnace. The doll catches fire which spreads. Soon the bedding and mattress are smoking up the house. The Green Monster tells the story of a bully teasing a little girl. Is there really a green monster? The story about the piano was very sad. Her father seemed almost cruel. The stories continue with a magical ball, a dog, and a television. I remember begging my mother for another story. Sometimes we were sitting on the swing under the spreading maple trees and sometimes we would be lying on a day bed preparing for a nap. She shared her childhood with us.... More > I will long cherish my mother’s stories. My grandchildren now beg me for another story. The stories are not always funny nor are they always exciting but they are part of me. Prister is a talented story teller I suspect her children will cherish these stories and pass them on to their children. Second and third grade children will enjoy reading about Prister’s life as a child. It is very different than what they have experienced.< Less
