Work for Venusian Hymns initially started in the early hours of a November morning in 2009, with the author becoming passionately intrigued by the sighting of the planet Venus, The Morning Star, as it brightly burned above London's southern sky.
The twenty poems touch upon the themes of hermeticism, Gnosticism, and transcendentalism. Blake's intuitive exegesis of such esoteric texts endows his contemporary poetic verse with a rich source of mystical insight. Heavily influenced by the emotive lamentations of the seventh-century lyric poet Sappho, other influential sources Blake drew from for Venusian Hymns were the coptic-bound codices of the Nag Hammadi Library and the alchemical revelations of Hermes Trismegistus' The Corpus Hermeticum.
Lucian Blake is a contemporary English poet, novelist, and singer/songwriter. He is also the author of the books Gifts from Jupiter and Temple Fires. He currently resides in Dartmouth Park, London, where he's lived since 2000.
