About Our Boys was written in response to numerous requests from parents and youth workers who had read Lucinda Neall’s practical book Bringing the Best out in Boys - Communication Strategies for Teachers. About Our Boys looks at what makes boys tick, what motivates and de-motivates them and how to help them navigate the journey to manhood. It is packed with examples of what to do and say to get boys on board, to channel their energy and set boundaries.

Lucinda Neall's latest book extends the thinking about how to 'reach' younger people. She offers a framework for professionals:- youth workers, teachers and anyone working with them, to employ different communication skills, showing more respect and equity, without losing the authority of their voluntary or professional position. This is shown throughout the book with exercises that highlight typically difficult scenarios and how to intervene in a constructive, non-confrontative and non-blaming manner that maintains the respect of everyone. The book's title suggests it is for work with 'our boys' but actually it is just as fitting for girls ... and is a 'must-read' for parents, and anyone in a caring role with young people. Yes ... five stars. Radhe Bentley, Family Therapist
"About reality!" As a classroom teacher I found this book amazingly helpful. It gave me insights on issues I have been grappling with for years, and I have recommended it to colleagues, as well as to parents of boys I know who are finding bringing up lads a challenge.
"ABOUT OUR BOYS review by Shelley Marsh" This is an excellent book which gave me insightful ideas on how to bring out the best in boys. Clear examples that show the author has had real experience of being around boys. Useful tips on being positive in your interactions with boys and acknowledgment of the challenges that may exist. I particularly loved the chapter on giving boys an emotional vocabulary. Have used some of the techniques already with great success. I strongly recommend this book. It's an essential read for any one who works or lives with boys.
"About our boys" Very digestable and well read. Applicable to all, whether male or female, who interact and communicate with boys. How to get a better life! ...and give them one.
"About our boys" As the father of three young men aged 21, 23 & 25 I read the book with interest and, I hope, a little insight. Whilst as a cop with 28 years’ service I have dealt with young men regularly as both victims and "customers". Lucinda has demonstrated a real understanding of how to get the best out boys and young men, and just as importantly how to communicate effective strategies to parents and carers. Testosterone can be a challenging ingredient in any household and this book gives us all a hope of turning boisterous boys into confident young men to be proud of. What's more they can be real friends along the journey.
