"Go Paintboarding - By Amanda Kay Carter" Go Paintboarding, by Luke Aveil is a documentation of a group of skaters and also artists. These are people Luke has personal relations with and also interacts with on a regular basis. The photo-book is to show a genuine depiction towards the culture of skating, and generates a more realistic representation of the people involved within this sub culture. From the photo-book you automatically gain a sense of appreciation, and feel its emotive tone. The narration of the book has a very simple structure, with there being only a selective amount of text used, being an introduction towards the photo-book itself, and then followed with only image titles and chapter names. The book is presented in 9" x 7" with a landscape orientation and perfectly bound. The presentation chosen for the book is extremely well composed and thoughtfully constructed. The front cover image is particularly colourful and appealing on the eye, making the... More > book rather attractive to its audience, a great eye catcher. Consisting of 64 pages this photo-book contains a few different layout styles, such as full bleed and double page spreads, but is mainly occupied with single images to one page. The images used are extremely strong and capture an essence of passion and real interest within its subject matter. As an audience we are able to really understand the strong relationship between the author and the participants photographed, this makes the book far more interesting to read and understand. On a whole this photo-book is of good quality and I would definitely recommend anyone to have a quick glance. I feel the only slight downfall is the lack of personal written encounters, although this is very apparent from the intimate images taken, I would of liked to see an interview with one of the chosen subject matters featured throughout the book, however I do not feel it effects the books identity dramatically. I’m just extremely intrigued by the whole story and wish to know more.< Less
