May 17, 2011I always liked the saying, "practice random acts of kindness." Just like random acts of kindness, non-random acts of kindness bring joy and happiness to the giver and receiver. My non-random act of kindness today is to recommend you read the book, Life Inside Out, by Lyn Densem-Chambers. My intention was to read a book that would help me understand ways to support and help friends and family members diagnosed with cancer. However, after purchasing the book, I hesitated to start reading it. Would it be too depressing? Did I feel like reading a book about cancer? Let's face it - it does not sound like a page-turner! Of course, I quickly felt some guilt thinking, "I am worried that it might depress me - poor me - and this is written by someone who had cancer?" I quickly discovered the book was not depressing and in addition to useful information for anyone facing cancer and their friends and family, it is filled with humor, interesting stories, poetry, and... More > inspirational quotes. There are many useful tips in the book which apply to everyone, e.g., nutrition, stress relief, and exercise. The author also includes Tips for Caregivers. This is great information - as we all wonder, how do I help? An added bonus is the fact that the author is an excellent writer, which makes the book user-friendly. Please do yourself a non-random act of kindness today and order this book.< Less
Apr 18, 2011My admiration and affection for Lyn has increased even more so after reading her book, "Life Inside Out." I reviewed her section on Tips for Caregivers when I found out that a friend of mine was recently diagnosed with cancer. Lyn's advice allowed me to be more comfortable in confronting the sad news and talking to my friend. I just sent her a copy of the book and know it will help her through a difficult time. Thanks, Lyn!!
Mar 18, 2011If you are expecting a objective review of this book, you won’t get it here! The Author is my big sis! The full impact of my sister’s battle with cancer did not strike home until I began reading this book. Her always positive attitude and reports from a thousand miles away blunted the full force of her experience! I repeatedly had to set the book down to regain my composure and was unable to complete it before she took her advance copy back to Denver. Don’t get me wrong, there is much positive and helpful information within, a must read for the individual and family facing a life threatening illness like cancer. I just purchased 2 copies, my second copy goes to the first friend with a need, for the asking! LOVE YOU SIS!
Mar 17, 2011I have had an opportunity to read this excellent book. The author expresses herself so well in relating her own frightening experience with cancer. She transformed her life in such a positive way and can offer great advice for those dealing with cancer.
