"Even Hippos Can Drown, by Lynn Hernas" I really enjoyed this book. From the very beginning, I felt like a participant, as if I could now understand what it felt like to fly into Africa for the very first time. A quick succession of small adventures introduces us to how different the culture is, and how frightening it can be. Those small adventures, though, don’t adequately prepare you for the real adventure, that begins when they encounter the hippos. I read this book out loud to my family, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

"A really great read!" I love reading about Africa and I love mystery/suspense. Throw in a little light romance and this is what you have in Even Hippos can Drown. I had no idea what the book was reaaly about and had a nice surprise. Don't let the title fool you - I thought by the title alone it was a children's book. Highly recommend!

"Even Hippos Can Drown" This was a fast-moving adventure. The author really captured the "feeling" of being isolated in a truly foreign culture. The shear joy of hearing/speaking your own language, gravitating towards anything familiar, and the fear factor are all vivid in this book. The story-line is great as well. This author either lived there or really did her homework; everything is so real! A great ride.
