Larsby is a town in the north west of Sweden and on its outskirts lies the outdoor activity centre, Ute. Twinned with a town in the Highlands of Scotland, Ardess, a group of around thirty Scottish school students arrive to sample the outdoor delights of Ute in March. Most are keen but inexperienced skiers and the novel follows, in particular, the escapades of a group of third-year boys; Duncan, Cam, Jamie and Donnie. With humour and adventure we follow the teenagers through their ski training and social time. Duncan, the main character, finds himself trapped in a stationary gondola ski-lift as the temperature plummets below zero and night approaches. With him are two girls from Ardess Academy; Shannon, the most popular third year girl, and Issy a fourth year ski fanatic for whom Duncan is quickly falling. They need to get out of this disastrous situation as quickly as possible and only a cool head, smart-thinking and the wisdom of old mountain folk can help them.

Jan 12, 2010This is a really fantastic book! I read it in just a few hours, I got completely sucked in from the start. It was humorous, addictive, witty and so much more. There's always plenty going on in all the different chapters, so it makes you want to read on and see what's coming next for the four boys! I definitely recommend this to any teenager who enjoys reading and laughing and I hope it sells well, great book all round. :)

Oct 9, 2009Larsby (Spring) is one of those books that you don’t want to put down. It sucks you in and overwhelms you with a desire to read on and on, to dive deeper into the characters and discover the delights of Sweden. The descriptive writing in this novel is second to none and I think that anyone of any age could pick up this book and be thoroughly entertained by the end of it. The authors paint a picture of Sweden to perfection, making it sound almost magical. It makes you want visit Sweden and take up skiing. I really enjoyed this book and I think whoever you are, you’ll be able to relate to the characters and I strongly recommend you read it. Jack Grimes (14)
