Marama and Maek have been working together on this project for several years. In 2005 they collaborated and exhibited work for the Tasmanian Poetry festival.. Inside an Image was the entree` to this book, Once Upon An Image. Their work is a synergy of history, emotions and memory; they create a space where distance and separateness is experienced in the thinking voice and dreaming eyes. Maek's work can be dark, brooding and raw; but it makes for compelling reading. Marama is attracted to the ruggedness of the Tasmanian landscape and its people. Her work reflects the resilience and beauty one can find inside the tapestry of human experience. 'We hope you enjoy making the connection'......Maek and Marama (2006)

"Once Upon an Image by Marama & Maek" The images are absolutely beautiful and the writing is sensitive and very introspective. A beautiful combination of words and images. However, I feel that it would have been better to dispense with the place names under the images, as this sets the image into a specific place, whereas I think the images work better in association with the text as a visual interpretation of the writing. They are very dream-like and contemplative, as is the writing. A list of the images could have been provided at the beginning of the book, and the place names included there. This would allow a spontaneous response to the images in relation to the text, yet allowing the reader to relate to the images as places independent of the poems. A beautiful book.

"Re: Balance of sight and sound " I am not sure whether I should be replying here. But anyway, you have picked up on my intention and you are correct; there is no where like Tasmania.

"Balance of sight and sound " Congratulation to you both. Stunning images and words that make one feel the ground, the sound and all the harmony between. Thank you for providing a full preview. It was a privilege. I must disagree with the comments by Jo, re image names. Tasmania exists only in one place on this planet. It gave the inspiration. I have been there and can relate. Would you not want to find the source one day? Reading it I saw it all again. The keymaker , circle and so many words of thought, and yes, as long as the glass is full. Thank you for sharing this. Heinz
