The ‘Pre-Converted’ Try

ByMalcolm Leonard Poulton

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Set back in the seventies in one of London’s most famous and historic hostelries, The Lamb in Lamb’s Conduit Street, Bloomsbury, the story, brimming with improbable characters and impossible situations meanders its way through London, South Africa, Cyprus and back again. The death in situ of one of The Lamb’s much loved and oldest regulars, Bob Pocock, sets off a train of events causing the pub landlord, one Dick Stroker, to put together a rugby team made up of his willing if ill-disciplined and unsuited locals to challenge old Bob’s team from his youth, Knole Park RFC, to a memorial rugby match. The resulting chaos unleashed on the Knole Park pitch concludes with Rugby Union’s first ever “pre-converted try”!
