Mamma Gram is a forty-eight year old mathematics teacher. Having experienced a lengthy, stressful time at school, she is unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer and suddenly her life is turned upside-down. This is an accurate and factual account of eighteen months of her life as she coped with her diagnosis and treatment, the impact it had on her family and friends and life afterwards. She has written her book with the intention of helping other women faced with a potential life-threatening disease come through the ordeal. All events are true but the names of the people involved have been changed. The book is written in the form of a diary with lighter hearted moments, illustrations and quotations from various sources. It does not profess to be a medical dictionary but is an autobiography written with hindsight, insight and foresight.

"Keeping abreast of cancer" A very readable book done partly in the style of a diary. The story of Mamma's experiences with breast cancer is both witty, funny at times but above all is very moving and poignant, and is written from the heart. I would recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from this awful disease or who knows someone who has it. Mamma takes you through the whole story, from her healthy start, through to discovering her lump and the treatment she received - with all the details (good and bad!) that will reassure anyone facing the trials of disgnosis and treatment themselves. Above all, Mamma also looks towards the future - and the hope that it will bring both to her and to anyone reading her story.

"Keeping Abreast of Cancer " I read this book in two evenings, and couldn't put it down-just like a thrilling Best-seller!! The poignancy of the situation is balanced by Mamma's magnificent sense of humour as she takes us with her on her journey from Diagnosis to Treatment of her Breast Cancer. At times I didn't know whether to weep or laugh. As a Doctor I would recommend this book to anyone involved with Breat Cancer,or indeed any type of Cancer,as the meticulous attention to detail coupled with the courage and optimism displayed can only bring encouragement and confidence in the face of fear and uncertainty

"Keeping Abreast of Cancer" I read this book with great interest and it gave me an insight into the world of breast cancer which my Mother was about to face. The book was very honest and also gave a humerous account of how to face up and beat the dreaded diagnosis and show that life can and WILL go on. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or who knows someone who has, to help them through it and hopefully to better health. Good luck Mamma for your future health and happiness.
