Mar Touma Audo was born in Alqosh in 1855. His uncle, Patriarch Yosip Audo took him to Rome where he pursued his higher education and was ordained to the priesthood. He returned to Mesopotamia and served in several posts, including rector of the Seminary of St. John in Mosul. He became Archbishop of Urmia in 1892 where he served with distinction until his murder during the genocide in 1918. In addition to his monumental Syriac-Syriac lexicon, Treasury of the Syriac Language, he produced a grammar of the Modern Assyrian language and translations of several western religious works. Note that the contents of this book is entirely in the Syriac language.
