A poem can be many things. Some rhyme, some follow strict rules, some just flow, some break all the grammar rules, some just hit the paper like drops of blood from a fresh wound. Sometimes a poem rolls off the tongue and others dart from the mouth like poison spit. Why write a poem? Well, the damn things just pop into the head and creep along the neck to the shoulders and down the arm to the fingertips that tap, tap, tap at the keys on the computer until the words form on the page and suddenly, exist. It doesn’t ask to be born, it simply chooses its moment and forces its way out. There are poems about the tangible and the purely emotional, poems that express in words rather than sentences, in phrases rather than stanzas. There are poems of many forms, for many reasons. Most of it is dark, some will doubtless be flawed, as it was after all, composed by a simple, human, creature.

"Book review: Exit-Reality/Enter-Insanity" I've known Marc Daneker for many years through Online Writing Workshop for SF, Fantasy and Horror ( for many years, and I can personally vouch for the quality of his writing, in both story and poetry writing. This book, featuring many political poems that he's known for writing so well, along with a variety of the more common types, is one of the finest reads. Whether you're frustrated with the direction our politics have taken, or feeling something more personal down deep in your soul, you'll find a poem that speaks to you in collection. In this book, the poems were written during the years of 2001-2007. Within it, you'll find poems that cover events during that time: the politics, 9/11 tragedy, Iraq war, and more. Hope and matters of the soul also fill the pages. Add to that, Marc accentuates the poetry with a fine collection of his artwork sprinkled throughout the book. His art draws you... More > in, speaks poetry of its own. You really should get this book and pay attention to the artwork, especially the sketch on 109. That one speaks to me on so many levels. The wonderful contrast and how the lines flow guide my eyes and heart into it. And the shape he chose to show it it. Don't you agree that it would make a wonderful mousepad for your computer desk? Or even to set up and hang on the wall? Oh, sorry, you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. Well, I suggest you go right now and buy the book so you can experience it too.
