In Edenroe Sanatorium, a group of young women, all strangers to one another, are thrown together by the killer disease tuberculosis, better known on the wards as 'the bug.'
Seventeen year old Mysie Sproul is one of them. Torn away from her beloved Mammy, Daddy and sister Vera, she must not only battle with her illness alone but suffer the animosity of the other women.
But soon old grievances are forgotten and unlikely friendships form, friendships that, in the face of death, rise above petty divisions. But 'the bug' threatens to shatter their fragile relationships and break the newfound camaraderie.
How will Mysie cope with her first brushes against mortality, and TB's cruel lottery over life and death?
