Using 29 meticulous journals kept over nearly a decade as the basis for the narrative, Holland and Reese have captured both the drama and tedium of wading through the legal system in Holland's pursuit of justice regarding medical malpractice and a mistrial in order to encourage other in similar circumstances. So many stories being published today seem to focus on the negative, with folks becoming bitter rather than better, exhibiting despair rather than hope. That is not the case with this memoir. While much pain, loss, disappointment, discouragement, and hardship are present, they do not triumph. Rather Margaret Holland's story is filled with gratitude and optimism as she "lets go and lets God" bear the burdens she carries. Read and be encouraged.

Having worked in medicine for many years, and being involved in a legal proceeding for six long years and counting, I cannot say that I was surprised by what I read, unfortunately, but I was encouraged that this book was written and the public is given a glimpse into the medical "brotherhood" as well as the legal system. Margaret's story, while tragic, is very inspiring. If allowed by the reader, it breeds compassion for Margaret and a particular awareness the general public needs in order to protect themselves in contact with these professional fields. I couldn't put the book down and I do recommend this book to all readers, and in particular to those who would be forewarned.

Margaret's story, The Brotherhood of Silence, is well crafted and written, a book that you just can't put down. Although Margaret's experiences are unusual, I found myself relating personally to several areas in her story, often comparing the way I handled a situation to the kind and gentle attitude she carried throughout her years of trauma and trouble. I learned that my response to difficulties in my own life is a choice. Margaret's resilience, moral strength, courage, heart and faith are truly inspiring, and I highly recommend this book to all readers!
