Ernest Holmes and the New Christianity

ByMargo Ruark

The dearth of Bible scholarship in Religious Science is largely due to the fact that it is difficult to map the mind of a great thinker as its founder, Ernest Holmes. This paper supplies both a mind mapping technique and its application to Ernest Holmes’ text The Science of Mind. It is a widely held misconception that The Science of Mind is a synthesis of truths from all world religions. While that is a nice sound byte, it is not supported in the textbook. There are a handful of passing references to scriptures from other religions, yet their combined numbers are less than one percent of the total Bible references found within the text. Dr. Holmes identified himself as a Christian, and his manner of speaking and writing relied heavily on the Bible. The research leads us to the conclusion that the Science of Mind teaching is rather a new breed of Christianity based on the Bible, and suggests why this finding is of great benefit to the larger spiritual community.
