Math Mammoth Grade 4 Worksheets Collection has been created with teachers' needs in mind: each worksheet is exactly one page, concentrating on one topic (with the exception of some review worksheets); so, they are easy to assign for students.
These are not your "run-of-the-mill" worksheets. Each worksheet has been hand-crafted, with varying problems that both emphasize the understanding of concepts and the practice of computation. There are numerous word problems. In essence, the problems in the worksheets are like what you would find in a regular math book, and far from the mechanical worksheets created by a script.
In fourth grade, the first section of worksheets deals with addition and subtraction, place value, and money problems, including simple discount situations. The connection between addition and subtraction is emphasized extensively in these worksheets.
The section on multiplication first briefly reviews the concept of multiplication and the multiplication tables. Then, the main focus is on using partial products (multiplying in parts using the distributive property) when multiplying mentally, and on the standard multiplication algorithm up to 3-digit by 2-digit multiplication.
Measuring worksheets deal with both customary and metric systems, and also include some easy conversion problems.
The division section contains some worksheets for the concept of division, as a review from third grade. The concepts of long division and the remainder are in focus. There are charts for the students to fill in to study factors (divisors) of numbers between 0 and 100.
In geometry, students are learning about acute, obtuse, and right angles, how to classify triangles, about various polygons and how to draw them. They study congruent shapes and how shapes are transformed (flip - turn - slide). There are also worksheets for perimeter and for the area of rectangles.
Fraction topics are still largely dealt with, with the help of visual models. This encourages conceptual understanding instead of a reliance on rote-memorized rules. There are worksheets for fractions, mixed numbers, adding and subtracting those, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions.
Worksheets on decimals deal only with the simple topics of tenths and hundredths, and adding and subtracting decimals.
