Jane Austen's Thimble

ByMarianne Luban

In this novella, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, an Indian practicing in London, saves the life of a young American woman, Andrea Beller, who has been visited by several tragedies in the space of one year. Kumar attempts to help Andrea unravel a mystery regarding her birth that begins with the Holocaust and ends with Edmund Hallows, a dead film actor with whom Andrea has an unaccountable obsession. While in England, Andrea believes she has found a golden thimble that once belonged to her literary heroine, Jane Austen. Does this talisman have the ability to change the American's luck? Whatever the truth is there, strange things begin to happen around Andrea from the moment she placed that thimble on her own finger.
