This edition of the classic love story is part 1 and part 2 (Ireland and Australia) I love this edition and want to tell everyone about it. Classic family chatter is used to convey important messages about love, where it lives and how to get it. Niamh is obsessed by love and wishful thinking for a happy life. She does not stay put but takes risk after risk to find what life is all about and to somehow find true love. She does have a few encounters, as the title indicates, sometimes it's lustful men, like her abusive husband, sometimes it's men who want to lord it over women, subtle, dangerous lovemaking that only ever results in disaster; or the love of a lonely man, far away from home, can gladden the heart. Niamh encounters love in many dimensions and degrees, and accepts that true love is not always lying about waiting for her to access it. Instead she gets on with her busy life, caring for three children and with a very unexpected and busy business. Characters, such as Maeve, the... More > jealous step-sister, Maura, her angry step-mother; a passionate and alcohol driven father, Sean; Rhonan, the disappointed boyfriend; Martin, the clever priest; Barbie, the kindhearted aboriginal girl; and Luigi, the ultimate macho-man with a teddy-bear heart, who adores Niamh, all make this a very interesting edition, a classic love story about following one's heart, but living life in the meantime. In the final passages, life becomes more complicated and Niamh must again make decisions that are difficult, yet love is still at stake. Love is the great hero of this edition, along with subtle sensual scenes that reach out to contemporary young people who are struggling with their own desires and wondering what love and lust offer them, and where these might lead. Five Golden Rings does not disappoint: it includes some of the Shelta language (secret language) of tinkers, some Irish sayings and Australian idioms. This could be a wonderful contemporary movie for adults.< Less
