An insightful, heartfelt and very funny book, the author really explores all the avenues often overlooked in travel writing from its genesis-the upheaval of moving an entire family, from Holland to the US. The book is so much more though-it holds a great candidness into the lives of a close knit family, and how they became accustomed to living in a completely different country. What makes this book truly individual, aside from the honest narrative and an openness the author divulges into without modesty, is the adage that it's written in both English and Dutch, on a flip axis. Therefore the book is completely accessible to either sides of the Atlantic, with Boerstoel-Streefland never forgetting her roots. I cannot recommend this read highly enough.

What a great little book. The author really captures the surprise, sometimes shock of the experience, but also puts it in perspective and certainly defuses a lot of bias and prejudice that we immigrants sometimes have. Loads of chuckles at familiar situations. Fun also for it being written in two languages. Good practice! :)
