Marcella Althaus-Reid died in early 2009 not having reached sixty years of age – she was born in 1952. During her years at the University of Edinburgh she contributed with original thought and theory to the theology of sexuality and Latin American theology. As members of the panel in her honour at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Montreal, November 2009, suggested the best of her thought was yet to come when she died. Her contribution to liberation theology was unique and came about at a time of an emptiness related to the changes in the theological world after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This work is a wide summary of her life and thought.
