This work explores Leopoldo Benítez’ life, a Chilean architect, within the context in which state agents killed him in September 1973; he was not killed by mistake but through an abuse of power by members of the armed forces who arrested him. He had challenged poverty and injustice in Chilean society with the tools of architecture and urban planning and he was followed to his in-laws home most probably after a tip was given to the police. This happened to many people; they were labelled communists and killed after an arrest without warrant and questioning without defence. For him and for many others killed and arrested after the 1973 military coup in Chile, it was impossible to accept that while few had beautiful houses and a prosperous life others did not have shelter or enough to eat.
