Marjorie has written about pretty much everything in her inspirational and tender autobiography. The memories range from her childhood years during World War II; her struggle against and triumph over agoraphobia, anxiety and panic attacks; family life over the course of many decades, including 2 marriages and six children; to becoming a well-known distinguished Medium in Spiritualist Churches of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Despite such a varied and demanding life, Marjorie's perseverance and tenderness is evident throughout this absorbing memoir. (Part review by Manager of Waterstone's) This compelling autobiography abounds with intimate details of familiar Hull locations, local organisations and members of her large extended family. With complete openness and honesty, she takes us on her personal journey. I was impressed with the fortitude with which she overcame so many stressful periods in her life, yet always facing the future with excitement. (John Weller Hull Daily... More > Mail)< Less

"Out of the Chrysalis " This is a thoughtful and sensitive book about one woman's journey through happy and sad times to eventually reach independence and contentment. Marjorie comes across as a funny and warm character who enjoys meeting people and making friends. It is clear from her story that she is very family orientated and shows great love for her children and family. Marjorie describes difficult peroids in her life in a down to earth manner and without seeking sympathy, for example her life during her two traumatic marriages. Although she has been careful to point out that the relationship with her second hus band was a happy one it comes across as an unequal and very controlling one. I am sure that many women will be able to relate to her experiences. Marjorie's constant battle with Agoraphobia was touching as she sometimes took one step forward then two steps back. However it is to her credit that she has managed to carry on fighting and it sounds as though she is... More > winning the battle. The most poignant part of the book for me was after the death of her husband and the massive steps she has taken since. Her description of being "under a blanket" was a very apt one and as her story shows when the blanket was lifted it enabled her to grow and develop into a very different person. Marjorie has shown a courage and determination that many of us would admire. Part of this has been as a result of her finding her faith but the majority is her own strenth and her belief in her own abilities. Marjorie's story is an inspiration to the many other women who are living with the trauma's which she has managed to overcome. A most enjoyable read I loved the book from the first page to the last.< Less
