Sep 10, 2012This is a very good little reference book accessible to both the novice and more experienced chicken keeper. It is no nonsense and straightforward giving clear, logical and useful advice and guidance. It is clearly written by somebody with a passion for the subject and who wishes to share their knowledge. Well done Mr Burrows a very good job! I have several friends who are keen to start with chicken keeping - this book will be on the must read list for them!
Sep 10, 2012As someone who has toyed with the idea of keeping chickens for a while now and has read a LOT of information on the subject I found Mark's book a breath of fresh air. Not only is it an easy and very informative read you can tell that it has been written by someone who is passionate about keeping chickens and is involved in keeping them on a daily basis. For anyone who is looking to buy their first chickens then I recommend page 55 onwards as a must read as well as page 39 as Mark explains in clear terms what is needed to keep happy and healthy chickens. With a list of resources to help any beginner and the opportunity to interact and ask Mark questions this is a must read for all and anyone thinking of keeping chickens.

Aug 29, 2012Just the book I needed! Well thought out, a friendly easy read where Marks experience and personality ooze through his words into your life, and what was a passing idea becomes a burning desire by the time your half way through the book. Everything's covered from Feeding through to eating (!)and everything in between. Mark is obviously up to speed with lots of links to his social networking sites, particularly his 6000 strong Facebook group. I have also discovered the many videos he has made from his smallholding, sharing his life and knowledge about all things chicken! A 'QR code' on Page 9 leads to a surprise free gift, and is a good demonstration how innovative and leading edge Mark is. This is not just a book, but with Marks invitation to link with him through his social network channels, it's the beginning of an ongoing conversation. This is the future of publishing!
Aug 16, 2012This book was written for those who have never kept chickens before, and has covered all questions asked by the newcomer and more. Packed full of common sense and a no nonsense approach, it was a pity that this book wasn't available when I started keeping chickens, as it covers all aspects of chicken keeping not easily found all in one place. What type of chicken to keep, what to expect, in what housing, what to feed them, how to get the best from them, and what problems you may encounter. I particularly like the information given about common problems, often not covered or only mentioned in other books, for example red mite, which is a problem for all chicken keepers at some point. Throughout the book are "check points" and "warning" boxes, which are easy to understand and focus on some very important points. This said the detail given isn't too deep for a beginner to understand and gives the reader the confidence to care for their chickens. The information given... More > is from first-hand experience, and not too technical. For those who wish to further their knowledge, the author welcomes the reader to stay in touch with him on his website, which is a well cared for, and very popular with chicken lovers and keepers from all over the world, where you can post your photos and stories. Any questions you ask will be answered. I don't know of any other chicken book that gives this support. There is a resource section in the back of links to magazines, websites, clubs, suppliers and organisations. In addition to the book, there is an extra really useful free gift. I thoroughly recommend the purchase of this book for anyone thinking of, or are new to keeping chickens.< Less
