Research is ever broadening: A few months after penning the above words, I was able to organise a five-day research stay in Birmingham. This proved to be a great eye-opener for me in establishing more of the realities of the lives that my Parr ancestors lived. Despite most of Birmingham having been destroyed in the WWII bombings and subsequently being unsympathetically redeveloped in the post-War years, I found that much intangible evidence was still there. This gave me at least an idea of how things must have been for my Parr ancestors. The tragic fact is that, of all eight of my great-grandparents, it was my paternal grandmother’s mother, Florence Allden, nee Parr, who was to pass away by the far youngest. It was quite tragic and heart-breaking for her; she was not even quite in her middle age.
